How Yummy Recs handles your information

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including:

• Account details such as your email address, display name, login credentials, and profile preferences.
• Content you create in the service, including ratings, notes, visit history, food products, restaurant lists, feedback messages, friend connections, invitations, manual location text you add to supported content such as notes and food products, and restaurant search text or typed search locations you submit while using restaurant search features.
• Photos and related metadata that you choose to upload, including creation time and image metadata when supported by your device.

2. Device Data and Permissions

Some features request access to device capabilities only when needed for the feature you choose to use.

• Camera: to capture food photos and scan QR codes.
• Photo library: to select existing food photos and, when you ask, save processed images back to your library.
• Location: for nearby restaurant search.
• Technical diagnostics: app version, platform details, crash details, and usage events may be collected to diagnose issues and improve product reliability.
• Server-side image analysis: if you choose menu scanning or restaurant identification from a photo, the selected image is sent for server-side processing.

3. How We Use Information

We use collected information to operate and improve Yummy Recs, including to:

• Create and manage your account.
• Store, sync, and display your food records, ratings, photos, lists, and friend activity.
• Support offline-safe write replay and restore your data across sessions and devices.
• Provide customer support, enforce product rules, protect the service against misuse, and respond to legal obligations.
• Measure product usage, understand feature adoption, and investigate crashes or errors through analytics and observability tools.

4. Sharing and Visibility

Your information is shared only as needed to run the service or according to the visibility controls you choose.

• Content you mark as private stays limited to your account, subject to internal access needed for support, security, and legal compliance.
• Content you share with friends may be visible to approved connections inside the app.
• Some data may be processed by vendors that help operate Yummy Recs, such as hosting, analytics, and error monitoring providers.
• We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect users, the service, or the public.

5. Analytics, Diagnostics, and Infrastructure Providers

Yummy Recs uses service providers to help run the product. These providers process information on our behalf under their own contractual and legal obligations.

• Analytics and diagnostics: usage events, app version, platform details, error reports, and operational metrics may be processed by PostHog to improve performance and reliability. Analytics requests go through our first-party /api/analytics endpoint, which forwards only the request body plus Content-Type and Accept, and does not forward client IP, referrer, or user-agent headers to PostHog. Mobile analytics is configured to understand flows and app health without linking those analytics events to a signed-in account.
• Search and mapping: when you search for restaurants, Google Places and Google Maps may process search text, typed location text, and nearby-search coordinates to return restaurant matches and geocoding results.
• AI image analysis: when you use menu scanning or restaurant-name detection from a photo, Google Gemini may process the selected image to determine whether it is restaurant-related, extract restaurant names, or convert menu items into structured text.
• Infrastructure and storage: service providers may store or transmit data needed to deliver sync, account, search, and support features.

6. Retention and Security

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain account history, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and protect the platform.

• Account and content data may remain available while your account is active.
• Cached or offline copies of data may persist on your device until they are refreshed, deleted, or overwritten.
• Backups, logs, and support records may remain for a limited period after account changes or deletion requests.
• We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, but no system can guarantee absolute security.

You can manage your information in several ways:

• Review and edit profile details and content inside the app.
• Update visibility settings for supported content types.
• Control camera, photos, and location access through your device settings.
